CE Specifications

For the easiest approach to getting CE up and running quickly and affordably, we recommend hosting with CitySoft since CitySoft is highly experienced in hosting CE.  However, this page page in combination with the CE Installation Guide will help clients who want to self host.

Technical and System Specifications

Whether you are hosting CE with CitySoft, internally or with a 3rd party hosting provider, your configuration must follow the following hardware and software requirements.

HARDWARE

The recommended hardware configuration includes a separate web server and database server.  However, some clients have hosted CE with one server that included both web server software and database software.  Note that Web and DB Servers must be on the same subnet/network or domain.

SOFTWARE

Web Server Software - Windows or Linux

For best results, CitySoft recommends hosting CE on a Windows Server using IIS 7+.  All security patches and current MDAC drivers (important to match drivers with SQL server!) should be applied.  Although CE has been hosted in a Linux / Apache environment in the past, CitySoft does not officially support that platform at this time (although we hope to in the future).

Application Server Software - ColdFusion Server

CE runs on ColdFusion software.  We recommend ColdFusion version 9.01 or above.  Free developer versions of  ColdFusion are available from Adobe for internal development environments.

Database Server Software - MS SQL 2008 (or higher) Server

CitySoft recommends using Windows Server 2003 or greater with all updates and service packs and MS SQL 2008 or greater.

Additional License Requirements

Depending on which CE modules you are using, some additional licenses may be needed.  If you are hosting with CitySoft, many of the following licenses are included.  If you choose to host with a 3rd party or internally, you may need to purchase to some or all of the following licenses.

Paypal / Verisign

For clients using ecommerce functions in CE (e.g. store, event registration, member registration, online donation), it is necessary to have an online processing capability.  There are many options available and CE can be configured with many of these services.  However, CE includes a built-in integration to the Paypal / Verisign Payflow Pro gateway as well as the Paypal Standard account / gateway.

SSL Certificate
For clients using ecommerce functions in CE (e.g. store, event registration, member registration, online donation), it is necessary to have an SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate to secure online processing when using the Paypal Pro (Payflow Edition) account.  An SSL certificate is not required when using the Paypal Standard account type.

In addition to ecommerce transactions, all requests can be secured with an SSL certificate if desired by a client.

Capwiz

CE includes a integration to the CapWiz advocacy system.  For clients using the Capwiz advocacy system integrated with CE, you will need to have a license to the Capwiz system.  The can be purchased independently.
